The 3 lb Cake Box shares its 10 x 10 inch base with the 2 lb Cake Box -- the only change is height, 5 inches instead of 4. Choose this size specifically when your cake needs the extra inch of vertical clearance for fondant work, a taller single-tier design, or toppers, not because the cake itself is heavier.
The "lb" naming across this range is a sizing convention tied to typical cake weight for each footprint, not a strict weight limit -- what actually matters when you're choosing between sizes is whether your cake's real height and diameter fit inside the box, which is why we describe each size by its finished dimensions as well as its name.
When to size up instead
If you're unsure whether your cake will clear the 5-inch height, or if it carries delicate decoration that could touch the lid, sizing up to the 4 lb Cake Box (12 x 12 x 5 in) is the safer call -- a cake with room to spare travels better than one pressed against the box on delivery.
