Die-Cut vs. Kiss-Cut Stickers: Which One Fits Your Product

Two cutting styles, two very different jobs. Here's the real difference between die-cut and kiss-cut, and which one to pick for your product versus a sticker sheet.

Die-cut stickers are cut all the way through both the sticker and its backing paper, following the exact outline of the design — no visible border. Kiss-cut stickers are cut only through the top sticker layer, leaving a small border still attached to the backing sheet. The difference changes both how the finished sticker looks and how practical it is to peel and apply — worth understanding before choosing one for a logo sticker versus a sheet of small stickers.

Die-Cut: Clean, Branded, No Border

Die-cut stickers follow your logo or design shape exactly, with the backing removed around the entire outline — no background shape, just the design itself. This is the standard choice for branding: a logo sticker sealing a mailer box, a shape sticker applied directly to a product, or anything that needs to look intentional and finished rather than like a label slapped on. The tradeoff is that each die-cut sticker peels individually from its own backing, a small extra step compared to a sheet.

Kiss-Cut: Practical, Sheet-Friendly

Kiss-cut stickers keep a small border of backing material around each design — cut through the sticker only, left on a peelable backing sheet, easier to peel and apply than a full die-cut. Multiple stickers can sit together on one sheet and be peeled off one at a time without cutting through the whole sheet. This makes kiss-cut the better choice for sticker sheets with multiple designs, planner stickers, or anything where the sticker itself gets handed out or resold as a standalone item rather than applied immediately by you. Kiss-cut is available specifically in vinyl, paper, or clear material as a dedicated format option.

Which One Should You Choose?

  • Choose die-cut if the sticker goes directly onto your own product or packaging as a branding element — mailer seals, product labels, logo stickers on a box
  • Choose kiss-cut if you're producing a sheet of stickers, especially with multiple designs, meant to be peeled and used individually by the end customer
